Being You Blog

Today you are you!
That is truer that true!
There is no one alive who is you-er than you!
~Dr. Seuss

Being You
How many of us live our lives authentic to who we are and who we want to be? Sometimes you might forget that “there is no one alive who is you-er than you”. Many times we settle for a job (or a life, in general) that we think is safe, secure, and stable. We do things we don’t necessarily enjoy, in order to please others. I did all of these.

Do What You Love
Doesn’t it sound more exciting to live a life you’re excited about? If you’re stuck at a job that bores, annoys, or depresses you, and you’ve always dreamed of having your own business, research what it takes to start it. While you still have your not-so-fun job to pay the bills, come up with ways to incorporate more of what you really want to do in your daily life. If you always wanted to create sarcastic, funny t-shirts, maybe you can design some, research different printers for prices, and have friends wear your shirts to get feedback.

This changes your current job into a job with a purpose – it’s fueling your business – and you’ll look at your job in a new way. Just like every business needs a unique approach to succeed, so does your life. You have wants, needs, and dreams that no other person has. There’s no doubt we all have obligations and responsibilities, but that’s where you have a choice – you can delegate or disregard some things in order to have time to do what you love, or you can oblige and please someone else. When you know you spent time doing what was meaningful and inspiring to you, no one can make you feel guilty.

Tell the Truth
Telling the truth about who you are opens doors for opportunities, it gives you fulfillment, and makes you a classic, not a passing trend. If you don’t want to go to that work function where everyone complains and gossips, politely decline, and spend your time on something more inspiring. Honesty about who you are allows the right people to connect with you and want to support you.

Be who you want to be. Do you.
