Vivian Best will share simple, effective movement strategies for improving self-image, posture, and function of the body. As a Feldenkrais practitioner she has helped many to connect with comfort and ease in their bodies and to see the opportunities in challenges. She empowers people to use their bodies more efficiently by helping them discover new potential in their movement, encouraging growth and change by accepting and valuing their experiences, interests and the intrinsic joy found in movement. The Feldenkrais Method is a great tool for improving the body’s own capacity to learn to move intelligently.
Sitting is the most underrated health threat of modern time and now kills more people than smoking. It is imperative that we create opportunities for movement. This workshop is not an exercise class. You will learn gentle, easy movements that you can incorporate into your everyday activities that don’t require any special equipment or ability level. Come learn about the importance of improving the effectiveness with which your brain coordinates and controls movement. Learn strategies for letting go of tension, recognizing unnecessary effort, and making use of your full potential. Vivian will share how small choices can lead to big changes.
Vivian Best is a Feldenkrais Practitioner. The Feldenkrais Method has given her relief from pain, and has helped her to empower others to take better care of themselves. She teaches self-aware self-care, and her compassionate guidance instills a sense of pleasure in movement, and brings vitality and ease to clients. She offers classes and private sessions at the MOA Wellness Center and Still and Moving Center.
In 2009, she started “Give It Fresh Today,” which collects donations of fresh local produce at the farmer’s markets for use in meals that feed the hungry. For more information, check out her TedXHonolulu talk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPtFL0Yeb78) After becoming a mother in August 2014 she facilitated two new mother support groups, which led to the founding of Piko Pals (http://hmhb-hawaii.org/images/featured/Spring_Flyer.pdf) in partnership with the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition.
Recognized by Honolulu Magazine as one of “6 People Making a Difference in Honolulu” in November 2013, by Pacific Business News as one of Hawai`i’s “40 Under 40,” and the Honolulu Star-Advertiser as one of “10 Who Made a Difference” in 2010 for her work in the community, Vivian loves sharing about the Feldenkrais Method and believes it can inspire positive change, building awareness and hope for inspired action!
