If you are going through a challenge, you’ll get through it much faster if you develop a “growth mindset.” Do you have a growth mindset? You do if you believe that deep down you have what it takes to get through your challenge. Or, that you have the ability to learn what you need. Having a growth mindset means that whenever you become aware that what you are saying is causing you to feel disempowered, you change the words that you use to describe your challenge.
So instead of saying, “Why is this is happening TO me?,” you can say, “How is this happening FOR me?” The story you are telling yourself about what is going on has everything to do with how you are experiencing your challenge. Never forget the fact that you are in control – maybe not fully in charge of your particular situation – but definitely in control of your response to it. It’s liberating to realize this, because it means that you can instantly change directions at any time. Your challenge then becomes ON the way, versus IN the way of your movement forward. Remember, what you are going through will one day simply be a memory.
